Many people told me this would be a recurring issue…
I kid you not, when I told this woman I where I came from she actually had to leave the room and have a giggle before coming back to confirm that there was no way in hell my parents were English. Actually when I told her my parents were Chinese she still didn’t believe me. Hopefully I’ll actually learn Japanese and then I’ll just lie and say I was born in Japan. Probably served me right for trying to use my colloquial Japanese slang. She actually wasn’t really that malicious, but it was funny all the same

In fairness in Britain I used to laugh at your face all the time too. But in my defence I was being intentionally rude.
I think the learn language + lie approach seems like a good plan. Although, of course, the ability to learn a foreign language will prove you’re not very British at all.
haha! Thanks Priyan, lying will come easily but I’ll have to work on the language part!
Seriously the number of times I’ve wished I looked Asian… Particularly funny/annoying when you stand next to Chinese American friends (actually happened with my step mum, who does have black hair but otherwise doesnt look remotely asian) who speak no Japanese what so ever, yet the shop assistant will only talk to them…
On the other hand you’ll probably never be on TV
